Improvements to Funie Steed Road at the intersections of Lindfields Boulevard and Formosa Gardens Boulevard are being designed to increase safety and capacity through the intersections. The project is being designed in accordance with a safety study conducted in 2022 by the Florida Department of Transportation, and a traffic analysis is underway at both intersections to confirm how best to accommodate existing and proposed traffic demands. The design effort currently includes:
At Lindfields Boulevard and Funie Steed Road:
- Roadway improvements to include installation of ADA curb ramps and pedestrian signals, drainage improvements to accommodate the roadway modifications, and milling and resurfacing of the intersections.
- Signalization improvements. The existing flashing beacons will be removed once the proposed traffic signal is operational.
- Intersection lighting to increase visibility to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.
At Formosa Gardens Boulevard and Funie Steed Road:
- Roadway improvements to include proposed left turn lanes along every approach to the intersection, and turn lane extensions, installation of ADA curb ramps and pedestrian signals, drainage improvements to accommodate the roadway modifications, and milling and resurfacing of the intersections.
- Signalization improvements. The existing temporary strain pole system will be removed once the proposed new traffic signal is operational.
- Intersection lighting to increase visibility to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.

Hello,
In reviewing the improvements for Funie Steed Rd I noted no mention of any improvements for the Funie Steed and Westside Drive intersection. With the planned completion of the Westside Drive connection south of Sand Mine Road, this already congested and dangerous intersection will become even more so as traffic will now bypass US27 during the peak morning and afternoon rush hours as 27 becomes backed up. Westside Drive itself will become a raceway from Ronald Reagan to 192 and any vehicles turning or pedestrians trying to cross (especially by the school) will be at risk.
Speaking of dangerous intersections, the one at Sand Mine and Westside is in dire need of becoming a 4 way stop now, with then becoming a signaled intersection after Westside is complete. Currently, I have witnessed cars that should stop don't and cars that shouldn't stop do, which confuses all and leads to many close calls. Compounded with a blind spot created by the landscaping in the median and given the number of accidents that occur there, its almost a miracle no one has been killed at that intersection yet.
As someone that traverses Westside often, I'd be interested in hearing what is planned for the above intersections. I do hope something is happening as I don't feel we have the luxury of years studying and creating plans to remediate these.
