The purpose of this project is to remove approximately 27,000 pounds of phosphorus from Lake Kissimmee through the removal of vegetative islands comprised of invasive, nuisance plants and historic sediments. This removal improves the water in Lake Kissimmee, reduces the risk of algal blooms, and improves habitat for native species. The vegetative islands and historic sediments will be utilized on nearby upland pasture as compost. Funding for this project is from Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
