Fortune Road and Simpson Road Intersection Improvements
This crash reduction safety project contains intersection improvements at Fortune Road and Simpson Road.
The total project length is approximately 5,200 feet.
Along Fortune Road, the project length is about 1,700 feet from east of the 7-11 Gas Station and Boggy Creek Animal Hospital shared driveway to east of the second driveway of the retail stores, east of Simpson Road.
Along Simpson Road, the project length is about 3,500 feet from south of Marisol Loop to south of Harbor Town Drive.
The project includes roadway widening to accommodate raised medians, additional turn lanes, and bike lanes while converting what is now classified as a rural roadway into an urban roadway.
The improvements to the western leg of the intersection will include a 6-10 foot wide pedestrian path (approximately 1,000 ft. from the intersection), dedicated right turn lane, bike lane, two eastbound through lanes, dual left turn lanes, raised median, two westbound through lanes and a bike lane.
The improvements to the eastern leg of the intersection will include a 6-10 foot wide pedestrian path (approximately 1,000 ft. from the intersection), two through lanes, raised median, left turn lane, two westbound through lanes, and a free-flow right turn lane.
The northern leg of the intersection will include a sidewalk, dual right turn lanes, bike lane, two southbound through lanes, dual left turn lanes, raised median, two northbound through lanes and a bike lane.
The existing southbound free-flow right turn lane on Simpson Road will be eliminated.
The southern leg of the intersection will include a sidewalk, bike lane, two southbound through lanes, a raised median, left turn lane, two northbound through lanes, bike lane, right turn lane, and a sidewalk.
